MOVE, ALTERNATIVELY

My new yogawear from Move by Alternative Apparel

I am a big fan of new year's resolutions; the thing I don't like about them is that they only happen once a year. Today marks the start of fall. For East Coasters, the autumnal equinox will occur tonight at 10:29 PM, when the sun crosses the celestial equator.

A new season is the perfect time to make a new resolution. And since our needs change with each season, it's a good time to check in with yourself. Take some time to reflect and make a new resolution. Or you can always tag onto mine, which is to move alternatively.

On Saturday I attended Elena Brower's yoga class at ABC Carpet & Home. This was my second class with Elena, but it will not be my last. She is a truly inspiring woman, and she brings a unique spiritual energy to her practice. Live music and chocolate at the end of class don't hurt either! But the best part of Elena's classes is that you move in unconventional ways. So many of us are programmed to follow our familiar routine, and this is the case in yoga as well. Elena encourages us to visit traditional poses with a different point of view. Have you ever tried downward dog with your wrists facing forward or the top of your feet on the floor?

After leaving class, I felt inspired to incorporate new forms of movement into my daily life. I plan to try my first Soul Cycle class (yes, I realize I'm a little late on this) soon and to fix the flat tire on my bike. I ran a slightly different route this morning and maybe I'll take a different avenue on my walk home tonight.

The launch of Move by Alternative Apparel, an eco-friendly line full of layering essentials, inspired this post. Why not look chic while you move?

My wheel's not perfect, but I'm working at it!
