ABOUT ASHLEY

Ashley possesses the sensibility of a designer, the sensitivity of an artist, and the curiosity of a creative. A life-long learner with a sharp eye and unwavering sense of style, she dives into her creative endeavors with passion, dedication, and attention to detail.

From an early age, Ashley exhibited a deep appreciation for aesthetics. Fashion and self-expression have been a through line in her life. As a toddler, she paired costume jewelry with swimwear and insisted on wearing patent leather loafers all summer long. A strong sense of personal style has always been present, and with age came refined taste.

Ashley graduated from Syracuse University with a BFA in Fashion Design and has a decade of fashion industry experience in New York, where she has worked as a womenswear designer in both knitwear and wovens categories. She received her certificate in Sustainable Design Entrepreneurship from the Fashion Institute of Technology and completed University of Pennsylvania’s Executive Program for Social Innovation Design.

Back to Basil began as a wellness blog back in 2014 when Ashley was working full-time as a knitwear designer and seeking self-care outside of work to feel balanced and vibrant. She was asked so frequently about her skincare routine, health products she was using, wellness events she was attending – that she decided to write about it all, sharing her knowledge and insights with a broader community.

Over the last few years, Ashley has been exploring creative mediums outside of fashion – curating tablescapes, enhancing events with her floral arrangements, and working on interiors alongside her husband Derek, an architect with his own practice in New York. She finds joy pushing her boundaries in new and innovative ways; nowhere is off-limits to her creative touch. She brings elevated taste and a unique vision to every project.

Ten years since its inception, Back to Basil is re-launching as a multidisciplinary design studio. Ashley is available for hire for floral design, creative consulting in fashion and interiors, styling, and art direction.
